Holiday Weekend

Oh what a weekend. My parents have been offering/encouraging us for a long time for us to take a little vacation sans the kids. It really means so much to us because now that we have moved away we don't get to see them as much as we would like and I know they love to see us too, but they realize the importance of kid free time and kept offering. They wanted us to have some time to clear our heads before the upcoming surgery. It has been weighing heavily on both of us. We have been pretty busy the past several months, but we finally found an opportunity this past weekend to get some R and R. Little did we know when we booked our little stay that the Thursday before we left, the kids would get sick.

Claire came down with a fever on Thursday, Lucas had had a little one the previous weekend. He had been dealing with a little cough all week but nothing we were that worried about. Claire was supposed to have her well check up on Friday so we headed to Roseville a little early, but it turned into a sick check up.

She is 24 lb 12 oz, growing like a weed, but had a really stuffy nose, fever, and cough. So, no immunizations for her this time. Our doctor said it would be easy to catch her up at her one year old visit in less than a month!! On top of her little cold, she is cutting 3 of her 4 "I" teeth. Poor thing. Later, after I had gotten back from taking Claire to the doctor's, Lucas started saying his ear hurt. I thought he was maybe just looking for some TLC since I had just taken Claire in. He kept asking for a bandaid.. so we appeased. It was so cute when literally the bandaid was on his ear.. but it wasn't "helping".

Per my mom's recommendation (I think she wanted him looked at before her and my dad were flying solo with the kids) I took him in. And what do you know.. double ear infection. I am so thankful I took him in because he got really sick at my parents over the next day or so. So, two sick kids.. one on antibiotics and the other just needing Tylenol. And off to Tahoe we go.... Thank you Mom and Dad!!! We had such a wonderful time. Not much on the agenda besides some rest, relaxation, and adult conversation. It is amazing how much you miss that sometimes.

Sitting by the beautiful Lake Tahoe.. Brr, it was chilly.

Took the Gondola ride up to Heavenly ski resort. The most beautiful view of Tahoe I have seen.

When we got back on Sunday to pick up the kids, I think Lucas was slightly disappointed he had to come home with us. He always loves the attention from his grandparents. He had told my mom the night before that he wanted to stay in Roseville. My mom even got him to be perfect in church.. this never happens.

We all had a great weekend. But we still have two kiddos who are on the mend. They are done with day care for a while... so hopefully less illness. I am cutting back on my work schedule and we are buckling down till we get through surgery. Please keep Lucas in your prayers, his surgery is only about a month away. I still cannot fathom that. He is so happy and besides the occasional panting and shortness of breath, you would never know he needed major heart surgery in just about a month.
