Anniversaries

On May 27 Peter and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary as well as the year anniversary of Lucas' first open heart surgery. May 28 was also Lucas' due date.. certainly a lot to be thankful for over the past year. Initially my parents had generously offered to watch Lucas for one or two nights, so we could get away for our anniversary, but then the offer was soon 'forgotten' about once Lucas started waking up a few times a night again... so no getaway... maybe one day!

Lucas has also been walking more and more, he can pretty much walk through the whole house as long as he had a 'push off' point.. on May 27 he stood up on the middle of the room and walked on his own.. to say he was proud was an understatement.. he now walks around and when he sees someone or even the dog he waves and says 'hi' with a big grin.. he is fishing for compliments :).

We wanted to do something special for Lucas' and our anniversary so we decided to take the dog and head up to the foothills for a picnic at a beautiful winery (the most beautiful I have seen). We had a nice picnic on the grass and then headed up to Big Trees State Park. This is an area where a lot of very large sequioias are, we did a beautiful hike and by the end Lucas decided that he was tired of his stroller and he wanted to walk too.

13 Months

I can't believe it has already been a month since the big first birthday. Lucas is walking more and more each day. Sometimes he will 'take off' walking but he soon gets this look in his eye like 'this is way too slow' and he goes to all fours and speed crawls to his destination.

Peter and I were talking yesterday about our favorite parts of Lucas being this age. Peter's is when he gets home from work and Lucas is waiting at the window for him and he says 'da da' with a big smile and usually Peter gets a big hug shortly after coming through the door. This is the sweetest. One of my favorite things is when Lucas is super excited to do something, usually going outside, he starts laughing and his whole body starts wiggling in excitement...he just can't keep it contained.. so cute!

and hide in small spaces.. maybe it is because you know we won't be able to easily get you out.

Step by Step

To say life has been hectic is an understatement. We recently moved from our house in Roseville to a nice little town about an hour South. We are fortunate to have been able to rent out our home. We moved on May 2 and spent two nights in our new place and then headed to Monterey for the week. Peter had a conference and Lucas and I just relaxed! Life is good, we are loving having Peter home so much. We didn't fully realize the effect that nearly four hours of commuting a day was having on our family and our morale! Commuting is a big commitment for everyone involved! Lucas had a bit of an adjustment period and a few very sleepless nights and days, but seems to be settling in.

Little by little he has been getting more brave with the standing on his own. He will dash between two objects quickly to avoid falling or standing for too long. Today for the first time he was distracted by holding my cell phone in his hand and he took about eight steps! Then, when he realized what he did he smiled and put his arms up for me to pick him up! I think he surprised himself!
